Travel, Food, Games. Good Stuff.

Friday, I called [livejournal.com profile] mnemex to work out schedule stuff, and learned that we now had two possible Games Club in Exile venues, Stephen Tihor's and Gaylord Tang's. I checked back to try to find out where -- I'm not actually on the GC email list and don't generally need to be -- but no one I contacted had definite information. The two votes I was told had been cast were "Stephen's" and "One place, not two".

Then, I asked where I should meet mnemex, and we settled on Coliseum Books. We were both early, for a change. Bemused, mnemex told me that he had been asked where GC was going to be by me. And Julian Lighton. And [livejournal.com profile] bigscary. So, he announced Stephen's place to the list.

We did a bunch of errands and went to the sushi place on 6th Avenue and 14th, where I did AYCE and he did a really nice white tuna tataki and sashimi. Then, we headed for Stephen's.

Julian and bigscary arrived as well, and I actually played a game, Amon-Re. Didn't do too badly in the first half. [livejournal.com profile] nightstalker arrived later. After the first game, Julian went home, bigscary and nightstalker did a food run, then everyone but me did a four person 17 houses game. I did some reading and writing.

Someone, I think Julian, asked how double offers of hosting Games Club were usually done. Surely, the potential hosts discussed this sort of thing together? I don't know if that's the usual procedure, but it wasn't workable this time, at least, not if I understand the timing. I think Gaylord's announcement was on Friday. Now, one thing we didn't know until we spoke to Stephen on Friday evening is that he does not do any non-work related email at work. He's got a high security kind of job. And, I gather Gaylord hadn't answered posts either, possibly for similar reasons. There were, therefore, 2 GCs. This seems to have worked out reasonably well, actually.

After the 17 houses -- well, 4 at least -- had slammed each other into the ground, nightstalker gave bigscary, mnemex, and I a ride home, after a brief demi-adventure where we weren't sure whether the vehicle we sough had been stolen or nightstalker had just misremembered where he'd parked. Fortunately, it was the latter.

Today, mnemex and I met Beth and [livejournal.com profile] nrivkis -- well, okay, Saturday. And we ate at a steakhouse on 51st or so. Porterhouse. Yummy porterhouse. And nice sauteed mushrooms. But beware of the very, very hot plates with very, very hot butter on them.

Much full of red meat, we went to Roosevelt Island, where nrivkis went to her mother's house. Beth, mnemex, and I went to Stephen's, with a brief stop at Veniero's, to pick stuff up, and Beth ran her first Hub session in a while. A couple of mysteries to solve, one involving a girl who may be an heiress or be wanted to compete in some odd competition, or just have really odd adrenaline. The other is trying to figure out some nasty intersystem druglord stuff.

We left Stephen's at around 11 at night, give or take, stopped by a diner for lemonade, then stopped by Jerusalem 2, I think, for falafel. It does good falafel.

I could enjoy a life of this.

Was, in fact, Jerusalem 2.

I love you.
