John Myers Myers wrote a wonderful book called Silverlock. He wrote a lot of other books, too. I think I want to find the one on the Alamo. At WorldCon, I read The Moon's Fire Eating Daughter, which was just what I was in the mood for. [livejournal.com profile] mnemex and I may be the only two who actually like it, though.

I gotta understand that. The book's impenatrable unless you Get It. And, while I Get It, I do consider that a weakness. It isn't a sequel to Silverlock, although billed as such. Myers Myers never called it one, and wrote derisively about the idea of such a sequel. Thematically, though, I could see it as one. I think it's Myers Myers' attempt to explain what happens when one drinks the third draught from the Hippocrene.

I've also read The Harp and the Blade, which the blurb on the Ace Edition makes sound like a Wacky Romp of the type I don't often like. It isn't, though. It's, well, calling it an historical novel makes it sound too dry. The cover of the Ace Edition is pretty good. The story is enjoyable, and bittersweet, IMO. And it tends to cover more in 20 pages than far too many books cover in 60.
