Tonight, at 5:37, we ordered food from a restaurant via delivery.com.

About an hour and a half later, we called the restaurant to make sure nothing was wrong, and the person answering the phone said that the food would be sent out to us in about 7 minutes.

As I was starting to be concerned, a delivery person delivered food. We took it, and he left.

We then opened it and saw that this was not our order. It had our name on it, but was a completely different order from a completely different restaurant, and ordered, apparently, through Uber Eats. We ordered via delivery.com.

We've been talking to the restaurant (baffled, swears they made what we ordered, and we've no reason to doubt that -- they don't make the stuff that arrived) and delivery.com (boggled, asked for order numbers, pictures of receipt and food, which we sent), and sent a message to Uber Eats's support system after confirming that there's no suddenly appearing order from us on their site.

We ate the food that was delivered, which, fortunately, is definitely within our range of Stuff We Consider Yummy, but... this was not what we ordered, nor from whom, nor via which delivery service. We are boggled.

The only thing I can think of is that a parallel-universe version of you in a parallel-universe NYC ordered from the other restaurant and the driver accidentally passed through a portal into our universe, perhaps forcing the driver from the restaurant you *did* order from to swerve and drive into another portal!

:) :) :)

A much more likely possiblity, having thought through it, is that the entry for the restaurant on delivery.com is not, in fact, for the restaurant at all -- it's for a restaurant drop-shipper/scammer -- someone who has put up a bunch of records for restaruants they are not associated with at all that have records up on other services, with the intent of making money via the arbitage between buying food on delivery.com (with a $4 delivery fee added) and ordering it from another service.

Of course, then there's the question about why they purchased the food from the wrong restaurant. My first assumption was that they messed up and accidentally ordered from the wrong restaurant, and that's still possible. But another possiblity is that either they're planning on wrapping up this set of fake restaurants or that they messed up and the prices on the original restaurant are too high (or possibly, they couldn't reach the restaurant I ordered from). So when I called to ask where my food was, they proceeded to scramble about and order some food from somewehre hoping it would remove my (literal) appetite to seek redress on delivery.com. (to no avail; delivery.com was VERY interested in getting photos of the receipt I got and the food that was actually delivered to me).
