I am amused. The Short List for the Mythopoeic Fantasy Award for Adult Literature is identical to the one I sent in when I voted. I hadn't expected that. Meanwhile, [livejournal.com profile] mnemex is having me read one of the finalists for the Children's Award, Nancy Farmer's The Sea of Trolls. It's quite good and crystallizes for me exactly why one entry on the Adult list did not make my shortlist.

mnemex and I saw Star Wars III, which was almost decent. That is to say, it was quite good in parts -- better than VI, not as good as II -- but really, really bad at some critical moments. Specifically, but without spoilers, the Kenobi-Anakin relationship was nailed very nicely, in the way it wasn't in II, but the Palpatine-Anakin relationship was not.

The trailers before the movie were fun. The upcoming Narnia movie looks like it might be really good. The Fantastic Four movie, while not The Incredibles looks quite worthy of the genre.

Still working our way through Utena. We're still in season 2, but I think we just finished the Black Rose sequence. Cleverly done.
