Drinks are free in casinos if you are gambling.
We are up five cents and one drink, and Josh needed to steer me to the restaurant. They do NOT stint on alcohol. I am hammered by The Matrix, which is really a Long Island Iced Tea. Whammied.

We went to the WSFS business meeting. I did the breakfast buffet at the Atlantis first, which was okay, but not great. We stayed the full three hours of the meeting, which was far more intereasting than we had expected.

I did the Joanna Russ panel at two and the Ellen Asher interview at three. We did the All You Can Eat sushi at the Atlantis, which included ice cream. The sushi was of reasonably high quality, having been flown in.

Then, we did the Girl Genius Ball, followed by some filking. The dance was very well battended, and a lot of fun.

We got up later than planned, but got a lift from a fan heading to the convention center. This was good as we seemed to have just missed the previous shuttle.

We'd missed the first hour of the WSFS meeting, but arrived as the issues we'd originally come to a WSFS meeting for came up on the agenda. Several hours of dancing and filking (and [livejournal.com profile] mnemex did two more hours of dancing than I did, as he went to the tea dance -- and he did another tea dance after he left the WSFS meeting) means getting up early a second time isn't so easy.

I made part of a panel on science fiction in the Seventies. Then, I went to a panel about selecting short stories for anthologies with David Hartwell, Ellen Datlow, Gardner Dozois, and Jonathan Strahan.

After this and the tea dance, we met at the Docent Art Tour conducted by Teresa Nielsen Hayden and Ctein. They are very good at this, which is why the tour was well attended. Hearing was sometimes a challenge, between the size of the tour and the acoustics in the hall. We saw the original cover art for the first paperback edition of Stranger in a Strange Land and some amazing photographs.

We did the Oyster Bar in the Atlantis, which was both good and surprisingly reasonably priced. Then I went to a panel on the future of cities. We caught a cab to the Peppermill, and then I went back to the Atlantis, which was against the direction of traffic, so easier, and I went to the San Cipriano and London parties, getting a Silver Bullet and a Murphy's stout.

Then I went back to the Peppermill for the second half of the Regency Ball. We did some filking after that, until everyone including ourselves went to sleep.

I managed to get to the convention center in time to make most of the Writer Beware panel, which was informative and darkly amusing. Then, I went to "A Quarter Century (and more) of Sciience Fiction and Gender".

After that, we went to S. J. Tucker's concert which turned into a Tricky Pixie concert which turned into an Alexander James Adams concert. We listened and danced. I left a bit early so that I could mail a package of books home via UPS. We didn't buy a huge number of books, but between the freebie table and the wish of a recently deceased fan that her books be given to fandom, we accumulated more than I think would fit easily in our luggage.

We went to the dialogue between Bill Willingham and Seanan McGuire. Then, we went to the Diana Wynne Jones panel. Then, we did a la carte sushi at the Atlantis, as the sushi bar was too crowded for us to do All You Can Eat.

Then, we wnt to parties. We did the Klingon Black Hole. The Romulan Ale was nice, but the Disruptor was magnificent. We spent some time in the Liad party, occasionally checking Twitter for Hugo news. Then, we returned to the Peppermill.

Me: We can go to our room, boot up the laptop, and watch the live feed of the Hugos.

mnemex: Or we could just go to the Hugos.

We arrived as the Short Story award was presented and found a comfortable spot to stand in. mnemex estimated the audience at 2,000, based on some seat counting and extrapolation. The room was large enough that it didn't feel crowded.

After the ceremony, we hung out, talked to people, and ate gelato. Then, we went to our room to get the harp, but realized we were too tired to filk, so we got a full night's sleep instead.
