Kill Demon Bill

I've read the first of Jack Vance's Demon Princes books and started the second. From the first couple of pages, I've tried to resist the temptation to say, "It's Kill Bill!" Vance wrote these long before Bill was a gleam in Tarantino's eye, and his style is quite different from Tarantino's.

I really like those books. They'd make great movies. Short, to the point, weird cultures and elaborate extravagant bad guys.

That sums up most of Vance's works... Have you read the 'Planet of Adventure' series?
