Okay, I've confirmed, in so far as it's possible, that Rene Louviere is alive, at least according to the database I checked. The one phone call I tried today now hits a "Because of the hurricane, the phones aren't working" message, which is still more on top of things than a couple of days ago.

Rene Louviere
evening, and phoned him there today, and eventually left a message
for him at the Texarkana, TX LaQuinta Inn. 903 794-1900 room 221.
He phoned up a bit later and we spoke briefly.
His grandfather's car which he was driving has broken down.
His grandfather made it out separately, but Rene's not sure
where he is. His wife (Mary Sipes) is with him. Mary's
mother is probably still in New Orleans, working at a hospital.
Rene said he's planning to get his mother-in-law and then
relocate for a while to Massachusetts until New Orleans is
back in shape again.
I told him I'd give him a free one page contribution in A&E
each month for awhile to encourage him to keep us up to date.
