I've finally finished Botany of Desire, which really was fascinating. I've seen Serenity, after watching all the Firefly eps. I liked the show a lot. I have mixed, though, on balance, positive, feelings about the movie. The poster is awful.

I don't know when -- or if -- there will be a third session of Keruton. If there will be, the next opportunity will be the weekend before Thanksgiving.

The dry run of our hot tub larp was this past Friday, and it went rather well. Three out of four gms played rolls. I played two rolls. Casting was interesting. Most larps of this style, where the gms create all the characters, have a specific casting order, or recommended casting order. This game was no exception, and we creating this casting order. But, in both this run and the Dexcon run, we tweaked the casting order based on various dynamics specific to the group on hand, demonstrating that casting order if more flexible than I had assumed. This was true when I helped run my very first larp, a playtest of Mike Young's Miskatonic Archaeological Expedition. Two characters who are theoretically indispensible proved far more dispensible than one might have expected.

I decided to try to start up a Sorcerer game. This currently consists of me, [livejournal.com profile] mnemex, Julian Lighton, Dave Demast, [livejournal.com profile] ebartley, and [livejournal.com profile] lordess. We have had two meetings for character generation. The first started in the Hungarian Pastry Shop and moved to Hamilton. ebartley was out of town then.

The second meeting had all of us and was at lordess' place. She'd like it to be there for the actual play sessions, and I'm mulling that over. On the one hand, mnemex and I are allergic to cats, and lordess has two. On the other, the antihistimine I'm currently using doesn't seem to have the same effect of exhausting me. The place is large enough, and easy enough to get to. On the other hand, three out of six people were mauled by the cats. Well, scratched, really. On the other hand, in at least two cases, this was not a deliberate attack. And, they are awfully cute.

My goal is to have the first actual session before the end of the year. For Keruton, my goal is to run once more before Thanksgiving, but, if I know enough in advance that will not happen, then I will probably try to take the weekend before Thanksgiving for the Sorcerer game. We shall see.

ebartley, mnemex, Stephen Tihor, and I are running two larps at Intercon F this year. We are reprising both Day at the Baths, the hot tub larp, and I think we will have a pool, if not an actual hot tub, and Jamais Vu, where everyone starts off with amnesia. Jamais Vu is officially filled, as we have 20 sign ups. And, there's one person on the waiting list, last I checked. Baths had 20 last I checked, with a maximum of 23. People may drop before the convention, and it is theoretically possible to create extra characters for both games, though I don't think it's necessarily wise. I'm signed up for the Buffy larp at Intercon F, and Sea of Stars.

I also recommend Pollan's _Second Nature_.

I'm not sure I've seen anything in science fiction quite as weird as apples as described in _Botany of Desire_.

They haven't spelled the type of role you play the same as "roll" for a good long while, love, and never in English (old French uses "rolle" for both a roll of parchment and a role).

Mnn. Roleplaying Games!

I was wondering if it was a term of art that had evolved since I left role-playing. Maybe a fifth generation term.

(Is there a fifth generation of RPGs yet?)

Possibly some of the Forge games, but I'm not sure.
