Thursday, on my way to meet [livejournal.com profile] mnemex to go to [livejournal.com profile] ladymondegreen's party, I lost my Tungsten T-5. It was very badly balanced on my belt (the almost perfect case had a cheap plastic bit which broke, and I had the machine in the old case and the old case in the new case), and it's not surprising that it fell off while I was fumbling with my metrocard, change purse, and trenchcoat while going through the turnstile on the 36th Ave stop of the N/W line. Someone checked the side I'd come through, while I checked the other. No luck.

Now, I would have been much more frantic if it had been my IIIxe -- the one I actually do most of the work on before beaming it to the spiffier model. But, that was much more secure. And, while I feel like a dope, at the same time, there's this feeling of liberation. I am free of the Tungsten T-5, which hurt my wrist to write on, which would not back up normally onto an SD card despite having an SD slot, which moved to fast for me to select text more than a screen but less than the entire note or file! Oh, and for which I cannot get a decent case, because Palm's moved onto the next sets of models. My next spiffy model can be anything I want. It doesn't even have to be a Palm. Hm. Makes me wonder what my subconscious was up to.

Later, I noticed that my cell phone was missing its antenna. That was distressing, as it made the phone useless, and I wanted my folks able to reach me. And, hm, I was thinking about getting a Sidekick II. My subconscious again?

Well, no Sidekick yet. My phone has a new antenna. First, mnemex and I went to a Verizon store on Friday. The woman there didn't have the antenna that stays inside, only the pull up, which always dies on me. But, it was cheap, so we picked it up so I'd have something. She also didn't have a case for it, and my current case was dying.

We went a couple doors down to one of those hole-in-the-wall stores that deals in various brands of cell phones. The guy there had the antenna I wanted. He had a better case for my phone. He had a case for mnemex's Sidekick. We bought all of these. He is expecting to get in the Nokia Tablet thing that mnemex recommends I consider for my next Spiffy PDA.

In my neighborhood, the small stores aren't that good for what I want. Heck, our local Radio Shack ain't great. But, in Manhattan, the Radio Shacks are fine and the small stores with cell phone parts are better than the official Verizon stores. Go figure.
