Undone by Modern Technology

Well, okay, I'm sure mnemex can help me figure this out. He got me an MP3 player, and I asked how one, well, uses it. I never have. People have put headphones on me and played me stuff, but I've never owned one of the things.

mnemex helped me download some software to do something to my CDs. I couldn't figure out how to actually do this something -- I think rip the CD to my desktop preperatory to putting it on a card or directly on the mp3 player. Blasted technology. I still have some of my very first Off Centaur tapes, back when, if I didn't have the words in a filk book, I played the song, rewound, played it again, and repeated until I'd hand transcribed the words.

And I still have to figure out how to use my digital camera and get serious value from my Nokia tablet.

Too many devices.

Yeah, I’ve been grumbling over the fact that you can get multi-purpose devices (MP3 player with low-end PDA and e-reader functions, cellphone with low-end PDA and crappy camera, PDA with crappy camera and MP3 player, etc), but the secondary functions always suck. So I wind up carrying four separate devices anyway: Clié PDA, Canon Elph camera, iPod, cellphone. Plus my portable keyboard for the Clié. And I’m planning to get a Nintendo DS Lite game machine when they ship in a month or two.

At least they’re small.

Keep a camera-less cell phone as long as you can. I could take mine into the courthouse when I had jury duty.

Good for mnemex! They say that couples who have been together more than three years start brainsharing (some study in New Scientist Magazine I read a few years ago had scary stat's where 3 yr+ couples were something like twice as fast answering a set of questions with their partner than alone and more accurate too). I am certain that this is going on with myself and Mr Wol. His head has all the tech stuff and the French language and I get wherethefuckisthatthing?! and domestic tech' (sighs!). If only one of us had any financial management skills we could share between us! Can't have everything though I guess.

It would help if I knew more about windows software, and could better recommend ripping software.
