Still job hunting, but also doing some housecleaning. It's at that stage where one is making progress, but the place looks messier. Hopefully, this will improve tomorrow, when I take a large load of things I cleared off one shelf and deliver them to someone who will actually make use of them. I've managed to fit my manga collection onto the cleared shelf, thus clearing a couple of square feet of floor.
mnemex helped me reorganize the shelf above that, and I fit a couple more books there, and I did a bit of reorganizing on a couple more shelves, and, as a result, was able to clear a bit more floor. I have about 3 piles of papers which will be tricky to clear, but I may be able to improve the situation by going through drawers and file cabinets and getting rid of some stuff there.
I'd like to find a disc drive for 5 1/4-inch floppies and a cable that can connect it to either my desktop (old enough to be running WindowsME) or my laptop (hardly new, but quite serviceable), and copy the discs I have. I can already do that for any of the 3 1/2-inch discs I didn't already do it for, this being one of the advantages of an old desktop model.
All of that means I could probably clear up space in the drawer where I currently keep my floppies. I'd just need to make sure everything's backed up redundantly, and then make sure the discs are really wiped clean. I presume reformatting them will do that? At that point, the question is: Could I find, without too much effort, anyone who could actually use the discs? Finding someone who wants to take the stuff one wants to get rid of can be tricky.
