On Wednesday, [livejournal.com profile] mnemex and I joined a friend for dinner, and then for dessert at Max Brenner's. We ordered conservatively, and the dessert was delicious.

But, the music was booming. It was Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah", which I do like, but not at that volume. And, even louder than the singer were the other musical instruments. And, people were trying to have conversations at the restaurant. Am I strange to think that, if people raise their voices in an attempt to talk over the music, maybe this should be a signal to the restaurant staff that the music should be turned down, not up?

Are you sure it was the restaurant? Maybe something sad had just happened, and so "Hallelujah" was playing ironically on the soundtrack.

But would you notice it if you yourself were also slowed?

Hm, I suppose afterwards your watch would be out of sync with the rest of the world.

I agree with you. Did you say anything to the restaurant manager or staff?

What, you mean, take practical action? Nah.

We should have, of course.
