We came home tonight to find that the overhead in the living room was completely dark. One bulb had been out for a while, but the other had only been changed recently. We turned on the halogen light and got out the step stool.
One bulb came out easily. The other broke messily, and attempts to coax it free, while ultimately successful, resulted in more broken glass. We cleaned, vacuumed, used a wet paper towel, the works. When all of that was doing, we put in two fresh bulbs, confirmed that they worked, closed up the light fixture, and turned on the switch.
There was a popping sound and a flash. We're not sure if the light blew again, as we turned it right off, but we are now categorizing it as a Call the Superintendent problem. It's not a Call Him Right Now (after midnight on a Sunday), but if something's wonky with the wiring of that lighting fixture, he really needs to be the one to look at it.
