I caught this week's Buffy, and am wondering something.
Just how did demon lady get Xander up there? Current theories:
1. "I want to test this rope on something other than my boat first. Do you mind?"
1a. "Actually, I -did- buy this rope for kinky sex. Interested?"
Now, I could see Xander going along with 1 or 1a in the privacy of the woman's home. Or his. Or her garage, or wherever she's supposedly going to put the boat. But in the basement of the high school, right on top of the Hellmouth? Even if you believe Xander really did summon up Sweet in the musical -- and I have problems with that -- he still isn't that dimwitted.
2. Magic. But why didn't she use it in her fight against Slayer, Spike, and Wood?
3. Henchmen. But see objection to #2 above. Then again, if her henchmen overpowered Xander offscreen, maybe Buffy & co overpowered henchmen offscreen.
4. Drugs in Xander's cocoa. But then, how did he leave a text message for Willow? Then again, how -did- he leave a text message for Willow? I didn't quite follow that bit.
Meanwhile, as for the episode before that, I'm so glad someone, in this case, the reviewer at Television Without Pity agrees with me about the Kennedy/Willow scenes and the Willow/Buffy/Tea scene. I still think Buffy was just asking to get hot tea dumped on her head. And yes, the scoobies really should have had a Secret Handshake. And the Initiative base just left there?? Okay,
agrumer and
kent_allard_jr have an interesting point about cheap government contractors, but I had forgotten just how many holes in Spike's explanation there were. Oh man.
OTOH, I don't think it's been anywhere near as hideous a season as the reviewer did. Except for this episode, I've found it pretty good.
Addendum: Oh, yes, and Amy. Now, Kennedy knew Something Was Up when Amy said Kennedy was a Junior Miss Slayer. What's up with that? What Amy did was not related to that information. And I'm thinking: Okay, so, how does Amy know that Kennedy's a Junior Miss? Is it because she watched the house and did ordinary Nancy Drew snooping things? Is it because she's a witch? And, either way, exactly how does this prove that Amy is Up to Something?

I'm trying very hard not to be that somebody.

And not becuase they're BAD at it: it just seems that something in the nature of the two universes results in a bland-at-best meeting or joining of the two.
Now, Buffy/Night Walker might be something. And Buffy/Ogre Slayer even has a sort of thematic unity, though it would be hard to avoid the depths of Noxonanity.
I think the problem might be that Ranma 1/2 RESOLUTELY denies any sort of greater purpose to the universe other than the torment of Ranma & Akane, while the greater purpose impinging upon Teenage/Young Adult life is the heart of Buffy. This may also be why Ranma/Sailor Moon can be goofy or silly, or just a minor event and be good, but it takes a masterhand at fanfic to put them together and have Big Things Happen without tongue-chewing annoyance resulting.
Conversely, I suppose that Buffy/Sailor Moon could work well - though I haven't seen anyone give it a real try - especially if the angst-knob was cranked up, and the choruses of "I just wish I were a normal girl" were kept to a minimum.
