We met with the doctors who explained that our father is not in any condition to be brought home to die. This meant a bit of rethinking, but the bottom line is currently that he could theoretically survive a few months in the hospital or die tonight, and is most likely to live a few weeks. This means that while I still need to look at funerary arrangements, and several other things, the odds are that I will have a little time to iron out some of the details. Probably not as much as I'd like, and there are somethings that will not get ironed out.

So, like, unless you're a hermit with no family and no friends, or you really want to put any loved ones through twice as much hell, if you don't already have a Will, a Health Proxy, a Living Will, some kind of financial arrangements in place in case you become unable to handle such, you might consider getting these. Oh, and if you do consider getting these, it might be a really good idea to set them up while you are in good physical and mental health, or at least not such bad health as to be unable to do any of this. There are a lot of little details to nail down. These can be annoying when you are in adequate health. They can be impossible when you are not.
