I've started China Mieville's King Rat. At first, I didn't understand why [livejournal.com profile] agrumer said it was like a de Lint novel "gone horribly right" -- it seemed nothing like de Lint, which was fine by me. I like a lot of de Lint's stuff, some of it annoys me, and we really don't need de Lint clones.

Then I read further. Okay, now I understand what agrumer means. I've hit the bohemia section.

It might also be appropriate to compare King Rat to Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere. Both use the geography of London in ways I'd probably appreciate more if I were more familiar with it.
