[livejournal.com profile] mnemex and I watched "When She Was Bad", the season 2 opener of Buffy. He'd never seen it before. I'd remembered it as being okay, but not great. Either I was vastly mistaken, or the episodes I remember as great must be really superb.

Every other line, mnemex would say, "Oh, poor Willow!" Yes. I remember when everyone cared about Willow. Or anyone else. Or when the show was written well and subtly. Or when it really was about friendship and loyalty, and not stupid speeches. Sigh. The scene where Xander and Willow save Buffy a seat in class and talk to her about how boring a teacher is is a classic example of the show trusting actors and audience enough not to feel the need to point out that what the characters mean and what they say are very different. Sigh.
