Yesterday, [livejournal.com profile] mnemex and I did the laundry. While it was on the dry cycle, we decided to go for sushi.

Now, our favorite place was Tiger Sushi, which has a neat all you can eat deal. But it changed management and name, and is now Wasabi. The all you can eat deal is a couple of bucks more, and the pieces are smaller. Not a hideous deal, but no longer our favorite place.

There's a Korean restaurant that used to do a huge sashimi for $50 bucks -- well worth it for 3-5 people -- and had other fish things. But it no longer has those dishes.

So, we went to another place. Obi, I think. We've had stuff delivered from there, and they're good and fast. No all you can eat, but not a problem. A wonky 50% off deal for 2 hours, with a select menu of sushi, where it's 50% off the prices on that menu. So that deal's a bit of a crock, but the actual menu itself is nice.

We decided on the sushi/sashimi for 2, which wound up being about a buck more than the old Tiger sushi all you can eat. But it was all we could eat and then some, and if it's not an AYCE deal, you can take the leftovers home.

We asked for no tamago or crabstick. The waitress came back and asked if that meant we also didn't want a california roll. Josh asked for a tuna roll in its place. So, there were 2 tuna rolls. And a yellow tail roll. And a bunch of sushi, nothing to write home about, but acceptable. And really good sashimi, especially the salmon.

But what made the deal were the extras. We each got a soup. And a salad. And a large scoop of ice cream -- I got red bean, and [livejournal.com profile] mnemex got green tea, and we shared. And the tea was superb. [livejournal.com profile] mnemex said it was the first time he'd had the weak Japanese tea where it tasted like this was intentional, and just the way it was supposed to be, as opposed to, say, just weak tea. Very nice.
