mnemex spoke wistfully of our floor unit, and I agreed that we could buy another one to spare him the task of hoisting the window unit into the window, a rather complicated, laborious, sweaty, often painful, and always tiring task.
We went to PC Richards and purchased a cute little floor unit. We borrowed what is probably one of the worst hand carts for the purpose of hauling something the size of even a small free standing air conditioner home. We left the cart downstairs and just hauled the box up without it.
Tonight, mnemex put in the old floor unit, then shifted the bedroom window unit in its box out into the living room. He then installed the new floor unit, with much less effort and exhaustion than the window units take. When it was installed and functional, he proudly informed me, "We have a second dalek!"
"Exterminate! Exterminate!" I said.
"No, no, no," he corrected me. "Refrigerate! Refrigerate!"
So, does anyone want our old window unit? It's an 8000 btu unit with a slide out chassis. The only catch is that you'll have to haul it away before we otherwise get rid of it.
