Last week, I went to The Compleat Strategist and bought BESM's Hearts Swords Flowers. I also bought the new edition of Chaosium's Spawn of Azathoth.
I hadn't planned to get that last. For one thing, I'm not enamoured of paying full price for the same thing twice. For another, I'd spotted Chaosium's Infamous (to me) Bug Art. Lots of bugs decorate the pages of the new editions of the Lovecraft Country books, as well as Cthulhu Dark Ages, and that didn't seem appropriate to me. What, it's horror, so there have to be bugs? The fact that I'm an arachnaphobe really doesn't help.
But, on taking a closer look, the winged insect I saw appears to be the only one, and it actually is kind of appropriate. There are also a couple of cases of appropriate arachnoid art, i.e., of stuff that appears in the scenario, thank you very much. One of these is well enough done that I really like it.
At its best, Chaosium makes very classy products that I want, and I want to support this trend.
