RECENT READING: Valiant, by
blackholly. It's not exactly a sequel to Tithe, but it's set in the same world, after the events of the earlier novel. Good urban fantasy, worth reading for its own sake or for inspiration for an urban fantasy game, such as Changeling, Deliria, or anything in that vein.
RECENT VIEWING: Virgin Airlines lets people watch any of a variety of movies on a screen on the back of the seat in front of them. They can start the movie any time, and pause, rewind, or fast forward.
mnemex and I watched Constantine. I'd already been told not to consider it as the comic book of the same name, so I was able to enjoy it as a good, supernatural morality play. The most questionable elements are put into the mouth of a character who may not be entirely trustworthy. The movie is well done, with a lot of elements from the comic book, even if they're not used the same way, and with the appropriate ugliness. Great portrayal of a creepy, childish Lucifer, who is not necessarily banal, but who is neither suave nor attractive. Things are set up so that a sequel is quite possible, but not required.
We also caught Kung Fu Hustle, which I thought might be lighter than Madagascar, a movie which just sounded too heavy for my mood at the time. Kung Fu Hustle is delightful, and, as mnemex pointed out, nearly an animated movie itself in terms of style and feel.
