I read the first two Artesia graphic novels. There's an rpg based on them, and when I talked to the comic's creator at GenCon, asking him for the 5 minute explanation, he kept to 5 minutes. I like the comic, so far.

[livejournal.com profile] mnemex, [livejournal.com profile] ebartley, and I did some gaming yesterday. We started with Capes. I don't quite click with superhero games, but ebartley had read the rules, and we managed to come up with a universe. Character creation can probably get complex, but I managed something simple and quick while playing with our shredder. Shredder is sorta functional, but it is time to get a new one.

The conflict resolution is where we ran into problems. I'm not quite sure what the issue was, but ebartley left the book for mnemex to look over, so we may figure it out.

Then, we went to Spicy and Tasty in Flushing. This was more annoying than it should have been. First, we were told there'd be a half an hour wait. We left our names and said we'd be back. The woman taking our names agreed that we should come back in half an hour.

We went next door, to a tea/food shop, and had drinks while beginning Polaris character creation. Then, we went back to the restaurant. We're pretty sure we got put on the end of the queue when we came back in, which is not how it's supposed to work. Still, we didn't have to wait that long, and I can chalk it up to language barriers and miscommunication.

The food was excellent. As we did our various bathroom-before-leaving trips, we got nudged to leave no fewer than three times. I know they were crowded. But, we were in no way dawdling. We told them that we would leave as soon as we all used the bathroom. We optomized our trips. We paid the bill and tipped well. A little less nudging would have been justified, I think. Maybe take out next time, and maybe try the food at the place next door.

We didn't actually try playing Polaris, but we have 3 characters mostly done. The bit about everyone being named after a star is really annoying. Now that we all have star names for our characters, I think we won't be so picky about the other characters.

We talked about Dogs in the Vineyard on the way home, and how and why the gun in the Western setting becomes the sword in 10th centure Iceland or Samurai Japan, and the light saber in Star Wars. ebartley considered trying a Jedi DitV set before all of the movies.

mnemex ran part of an Everway adventure, involving trying to find wizards to cure a princess. The first one can't come, and that's where we broke.

Okay, a bit old now, but man, it's tasty.

And, just now, mnemex and I watched the first ep of Firefly on the discs we borrowed from [livejournal.com profile] agrumer and housemates. Oh, man, it's good.
