Break in

Wow. We've been broken into.


The big items were my laptop and the door itself.

Okay, the door was not stolen, but a huge chunk of it is busted off, the part with the locks. The evidence collecting cops said they'd not see that before. One of them said that our lock placement was actually quite good, and we had clear evidence that we had not neglected to use the locks.

The laptop, well, that is a pain, no mistake. My last back up was August 13, and I have the DVD. Guess I get to see how good a job I did on back up. Also gone was a web tablet, which, while I did not get any use out of it -- hence my leaving it at home -- could have been sold or given as a gift, some cash, and mnemex's broken camera.

Our neighbor across the hall also got his place broken into. He says nothing's gone but some cash. His door is also pretty messed up.

Shit! Being robbed is a very unpleasant experience. Glad the damage was no worse and probably very glad you weren't home. Hard to see what else you can do to prevent it except for a steel door or some such crap.

Ah, that's rotten. I'm glad it wasn't worse in terms of your missing possessions, but it's happened to us and I know I felt uncomfortable and just 'odd' in my own home for a while afterwards.

Sounds like an organized gang of professional smash 'n grabbers. Glad no-one was injured and that you mostly lost "just stuff" and not apparently heirlooms of sentimental value. I'm thankful (touch wood) that I've never been broken into, but I've had a nice bike stolen once, and that was painful enough so I can sort of imagine what you guys are feeling like. My sympathies.

Hope you get your door sorted out real soon -- maybe you can use this as an opportunity to upgrade the engineering on your door?

coming in late, but you have our sympathies as well. I'm glad no one was injured and that the losses - other than the sense of safety - were minimal.
