We've finished the season of Doctor Who eps, only, what, one year behind? Two? We had no trouble following the penultimate episode.

Now, we want to see Torchwood, the more recent Doctor Whos, and Battlestar Galactica, which I'm told is pretty durn good.

Is the penultimate episode ("Bad Wolf") supposed to be hard to follow?

Well, according to the comments to my previous entry on the season, we should have seen episodes of a couple of other shows first. But, really, all we needed to know was that part of "Bad Wolf" was a nod to / spoof of game and reality tv shows, which I probably would have figured out on my own.

Any odds you could bring Torchwood, Battlestar Galactica, or the newer Doctor Who eps to NYRSF or CUGC this week?

I didn't think you'd find it hard to follow. I just thought you'd have more fun with the in-jokes if you had seen them. That's all.

It was little things, like Lynda-with-a-y being played by the announcer for a companion show to the British version of Big Brother called Big Brother's Little Brother, or exactly how satisfying it was to see the Dalek blow up the Anne-droid. (She blows up three Daleks, and the audience cheers. The next Dalek blows her up, and the audience cheers.)

Ah, I see. Nah, on the whole, it was good that I had the heads up about the game shows, but the payoff of getting the extra joke or two would not have been worth the effort of seeing the shows. I don't watch a lot of television, and I doubt I'd have the patience to watch any of the shows the episode was riffing off of. Finding out the added twist of the Anne-droid getting blown up after I've seen the episode is just fine.

I am enjoying the Television Without Pity write ups / analyses. Grace, doubling -- wow. I'd forgotten how much I enjoyed cool litcrit.

Agreed on the TWOP analyses. This guy does a fantastic job with them, almost as though he's putting his PhD dissertation together.

Exactly. I'm holding off on reading the last one, as I let the "Bad Wolf" write up sink in. Just wanted to throw back my head and scream for joy -- or life or sheer literary geekiness.
