Dropped by a local bakery/cafe for some pastries and noticed the signs were all gone. This caused me some concern as we seem to have lost a good bakery near by. So, I asked and found out that, after 7 years of the sign being fine, there's now a rule about signage. Something about lights and length and stuff. So, all of the signs on Queens Boulevard apparently need to be replaced, and there's a $600 fee or fine involved. So said the cashier, who, understandably, thinks this is a Bloomberg-sponsored scheme to get more money for the city.
I don't recall anything hazardous or excessive in the signage. Well, one thing -- the sign said that the place is open 24 hours a day, which is not so. I think it's a holdover from the previous business. But that's got nothing to do with how large the sign was or whether it had lights on it.
