Folks at work are talking about tickets. It seems someone was ticketed for leaving a bag on the seat next to her on the subway. Now, the usual way of dealing with this is "Move your bag." The "please" part is useful, but optional. I gather no request was made before the ticket was written.

My assistant says she now worries about whether she parks correctly -at- the meter, neither ahead nor behind it.

One of my researchers mentioned a man passing out leaflets while sitting or standing on a milk carton. He wasn't ticketed for the leaflets. It seems that the carton had, in very small print, "Unlawful to use for anything other than milk" or something to that effect.

You have been warned. Or not.
