Out of the ER
The ER doctor says my symptoms are consistent with kidney stone. Only test he did was urine, but Josh pointed out this all makes sense given symptoms and Lee concurred. And the doctor said coming in was not dumb.
Conclusions:
-- it is a kidney stone
-- small, about 2 to 3 mm
-- it is not life threatening
-- I can get on the plane
-- I should drink fluids and take motrin for pain
-- I should strain my urine
-- I should avoid salty foods
-- My very clear urine apparently has some blood in it, consistent with kidney stone and also today's pap smear
I now have my very own urine strainer.

Dietary implications depend a bit on the kind of stones your kidneys are making, but healthy eating, low salt and plenty of water are good for all stones.
I hope this is your one and only stone. Time has thankfully dulled my memory of the intense pain of the two stones I had.
