We've been working our way at snail's pace through the Eccleston Doctor Who episodes. When [livejournal.com profile] mnemex got the DVD of the first season of The Muppet Show, that took precedence. I tended not to be in the mood for anything requiring heavy concentration, and I knew that we were about to hit a two parter. One 2-part episode = 2 hours. For that, we could see 4 episodes of Muppets, or even one or two, and get to bed less than utterly late.

But, we finished that DVD set, and tonight, we watched "The Empty Child" and "The Doctor Dances", which were up for the Hugo for Short Dramatic Presentation. Very well done, and now, of course, we want to see Torchwood.

We’ve got the first four episodes of Torchwood on a DVD.

Though actually, first you want to see the rest of that season of Doctor Who. Jack hangs around with Rose and the Doctor as another companion. And there’s stuff in there that precedes Torchwood.

Torchwood has been a bit hit or miss so far. It's certainly watchable, but I think that it's rushing a bit too quickly to show the characters in crunch situations, without giving the actors time to establish those characters or the audience time to care about them.

I'd certainly watch the end of the Eccleston season of Who first. Capt. Jack gets more screentime and two great kisses in the finale.

Well, seeing as how the Doctor Whos are on loan from you guys, that's appropriate. And, we do want to borrow Battlestar Galactica at some point.

You'll even get to see a pg-version of a naked Captain Jack.

Before you finish the season, I strongly recommend you watch an episode or two of What Not to Wear and The Weakest Link. The former is showing on BBC America. Not sure about the latter.

The penultimate show will be much better if you are familiar with these programs.

I picked up on the Weakest Link connection (which was moderately popular about 2-3 years ago). Never having seen What Not to Wear, I think I might have missed the specific references. But the genre was, I think, sufficient.

I am enjoying Torchwood but it is not as good or as tight as the Eccleston Dr Who. I just hope it gets to stick around long enough to iron out the kinks and grow but the tabloid press in the UK are going apeshit over the metrosexuality so who knows how long it will last.

The reviewer from Television Without Pity was highly confused by the What Not to Wear part. Had he watched the show, he would have known that Trinny and Susanna are notorious for groping and grabbing the women they help. Seriously, if they'd been guys, they would been beaten or arrested. I thought it was hysterical, but it went right past most people who didn't know this about WNtW.

I don't think I'll be likely to see those shows, but just knowing what the episode is drawing on should help. I gather that these are game shows?

Yah, [livejournal.com profile] osewalrus figures that any sf show takes about a year / season to find its footing.
